Overview

ArcelorMittal Ruhrort has been an important steelmaking site in Germany for over 140 years. Today, it specialises in high-quality steel grades, which it supplies as continuous cast blooms or rolled billets.

The company’s partnership approach to solving technical problems with customers and its close attention to product quality and cost are key reasons why its semi-finished products attract customers demanding the highest specifications and grades.

The company manufactures its products from 1.3 million tpa of hot metal supplied by Thyssen Krupp Stahl. Low residual steel is then manufactured at the plant’s converter shop using secondary metallurgical equipment. The plant’s continuous casting machine is one of the most modern in the world. Subsequent soft reduction in the straightening zone of the caster provides a bloom with low centre segregation.

Billets are rolled from blooms after reheating in a pusher type furnace. Depending on customer specification, billets may then undergo conditioning treatment before extensive quality control in the plant’s finishing shops.

To enhance its technologically sophisticated steelmaking facilities and to improve efficiency, ArcelorMittal Ruhrort casts a large volume of semis directly into a new 1.2 million tpa billet caster.

The company’s rolling mill and finishing shops are constantly upgraded to maintain state-of-the-art technology for ensuring the highest dimensional tolerances and optimum surface quality combined with material characteristics to meet customers’ needs.

ArcelorMittal Ruhrort is QS 9000 and ISO 9001 certified – by Det Norske Veritas. In addition, the company has received VDA6.1 certification and its laboratory has been accredited by GAZ.
