Overview

ArcelorMittal Ostrava is the largest integrated steel producer in the Czech Republic, producing around 3 million tons of crude steel a year. It supplies companies in the construction, mining, machinery, energy, transportation, water and oil and gas markets. Its downstream strategic partners, VPFM, JÄKL and NH Valcovna za studena, are also an integral part of its customer base.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava produces flat products, long products, tubes and a range of engineered products that includes medium and heavy shaped bars.

The company was established in 1951, became a state enterprise in 1990 and was acquired by ArcelorMittal in January 2003. New management then set about transforming the company into one of central Europe’s premier steel producers, while meeting commitment made to the Czech government and the European Union.

A series of investment projects was undertaken to upgrade ArcelorMittal Ostrava’s products to international standards and broaden the product range. Among the new, high-quality products introduced are dynamo steel, ribbed square core wire for reinforcing concrete, round section bars and oil tubes with Cr-Mo steel. Tube production has been expanded to take in seamless and welded tubes with external polyethylene insulation and external and internal cement insulation.

Customer service standards have also been lifted. The company now generates 40 per cent of its sales in the export markets, the bulk of that in other EU countries.
